Location Location Location
Trust us when we tell you that selecting the location for the first Junior Chefs Kitchen was no easy feat! We selected 2448 N. Lincoln Avenue for many reasons - located in the community in which we live, close proximity to a plethora of transit options (bus, L, plenty of street parking), super kid-friendly and densely populated! Moreso, the space had never been occupied so it was a clean slate to start, allowing us to focus on the curriculum we could build with our Registered Dietitian and Chef and still give parents a comfortable place to watch, participate or drop off. We are truly building a community gathering place and we would love to remind you of some of the things this neighborhood has to offer!

Help - I live in Chicago and I feel that nothing is seasonal or fresh come mid-winter! While this time of year is notably referred to as “citrus season”, there isn’t much that feels local about enjoying the delicious grapefruit & oranges found at grocery stores. Did you know that local harvests are available from storage year-round? Farmers can store things such as garlic, potatoes, onions, various squash and many root vegetables year-round, making them a great option when trying to support farmers in the area this time of year. Plus, as our dietitian reminds us, don’t forget that frozen produce is a great, affordable option for nutrient-dense foods, too. Preserved at their peak harvest, frozen produce captures foods at their most nutritious to be enjoyed throughout the year.
